The Difference between Gravity, High Pressure and
Low Pressure Die Castings

There are several methods that die casting manufacturers in India employ to produce aluminium die castings for their clients. The 3 most common processes are- gravity, high-pressure, and low-pressure die casting. Each of these methods has its own advantages based on the type and quantity of component required. Choosing the right method helps create the ideal aluminium castings for you by maximizing efficiency and cost-effectivity.

Read below to understand the difference between the 3 processes and choose the best one for you-

  • Gravity Die Casting- This is the simplest and oldest of the methods to produce aluminium die castings. As the name suggests, in this process, molten metal is poured into the mould using only the force of gravity. There, it is allowed to solidify and cool down. The resultant casting has excellent density. Gravity die casting is a highly economic process, which makes it perfect for manufacturing large quantities of castings. Usually, heavy castings are produced using this process.
  • High-Pressure Casting- In this process, two halves of the mould are placed upright and molten aluminium is injected in between them using very high pressure. The mould halves are then shut tight to allow the casting to solidify and cool. This method is ideal for creating complicated components, and we create aluminium die castings in any desired shape ranging between 5g to 6kg using high-pressure die casting.
  • Low-Pressure Casting- This process also consists of casting aluminium using two halves of the mould. The difference is that one half is placed above the other, and the metal is injected from below using much lower pressure than the former process. The casting is then allowed to solidify. Like high-pressure die casting, this process is also used to create complicated components, and it can be used to create even the toughest shapes in any size.
